The delightful Darebin Creek Trail runs 25km from outer Northern Melbourne along the Darebin Creek to the near inner city. The trail completely avoids roads offering a safe and pleasant path whether for recreational cyclist or for walkers communing with nature.
The Darebin shared trail now connects to the main Yarra shared trail.
Up until Sunday 25th March 2018, the trail fell 1.8 km short of connecting with the Yarra Trail. The final missing link had been the subject of much controversy including in a hearing at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. In 2012, the Vic Government finally announced their commitment to complete the link. In April 2013, Boroondara Council rejected an application to extend the planning permit for construction. This story had more twists than a bad novel however it has a very happy ending. The trail is connected.
Completion of the Darebin – Yarra link realises a long held dream to connect communities, schools and families via a scenic and safe pathway and is sure to become a nature lovers trail.
